The Faim in Philadelphia, PA at Voltage Lounge 9/29/19
Earlier this month, Australia rockers, The Faim, brought their unique brand of hard rock blended with pop to Philadelphia’s intimate Voltage Lounge. The undeniably big energy of frontman Josh Raven radiated throughout that small bar, as he engaged with every fan in the room; From dancing on top of the bar, to diving into the crowd to open up mosh pit, their eclectic performance was truly one of a kind.
The last time I caught the Faim was during Hands Like Houses’ headline tour last fall. They were the second band of five to play, but they had headliner energy that I felt right from the start of their set. Now, catching them live almost a year later, their growth as a band and as performers is absolutely incredible. They were even MORE energetic. As they continue to make new music and tour all around the world there’s no doubt that these guys will keep getting more and more fun to watch.
The band's setlist included songs from their latest release, State of mind, as well as previous EPs, such as My Heart Needs To Breathe, A million Stars (during which the room was lit up by a volume of celphone flashligts, resembling those stars) and Tongue Tied, to name a few.
As they play through their danceable yet heavy songs, its no question that the guys are having just as much fun on stage as their fans in the crowd. While all members are dancing on stage, Josh, untethered by instrument cables, spent a whole two songs singing and dancing atop the bar adjacent to the stage before jumping into the crowd to dance and mosh along with the whole room. How often is it that, at rock show, you get to mosh around with the lead singer of the band??
Immediately after jumping around with the crowd, he made his way up to the upper balcony to greet fans watching from up there while singing the chorus of their second to last song in the set, Summer is a Curse, and then closed with State of Mind.
With their heavy guitar riffs layered with poppy synths and impeccable vocals creating a signature vibe, and their high energy stage antics, a performance from The Faim is alway nothing short of spectacular.
