Alternative pop band HAUNTER have revealed a new single that can only be described as a dark fantasy. It’s called Paralyze and narrates topics personal to the band such as sex, non-monogamy, unhealthy obsessions, and power. Co-written with two time Grammy nominated producer Tyler Smyth, Paralyze is bursting with upbeat energy and aggressive lyrics. This track is sure to haunt you.:
“I was asked to write a song saying all the things I wanted to say but couldn’t. I wanted to write a song from the perspective of a powerful woman. In this narrative, this woman controls the situation. She’s definitely the dominant one in the dynamic. I wanted to paint a picture how her partner(s) just craved her. They needed her. They didn’t care if she was poison in their veins. I’m certainly drawn to the idea of flipping “traditional” power dynamics on it’s head.” - Lucy LeNoir (Vocalist of HAUNTER)
“Paralyze at it’s core is a song about sex, power, and relationship dynamics. When we were writing it Lucy and I came into the sessions wanting to sort of blend our two experiences. I was just learning to navigate what it meant to be in a polyamorous relationship and dealing with some of the potentially toxic aspects that came with that lifestyle. The song also has a unique spin on power dynamics in relationships that come from Lucy. She really came in with this larger than life imagery.” - Enoma Asowata (Guitarist of HAUNTER)
Some former emo kids & one metalhead started a pop band. Enoma Asowata (guitars/synths) had met producer/songwriter Tyler Smyth (Lights, I Prevail, Falling In Reverse) as so many musicians in the pop world of today do - while pursuing DIY projects during the Warped Tour era. The duo clicked musically, and after several months of talks, Enoma sent Tyler some rough demos of songs he had written. The idea behind all this was to do something different, challenging, and brutally honest.
Vocalist/tattoo artist/chef/model Lucy LeNoir was added to the group later in the year, with bassist Mark Schroeder joining soon after, and the addition of Mike Ray (guitar / keys) solidified the group’s musical dynamic. Writing and recording their debut single with Smyth (now a 2X Grammy nominated producer) at his LA studio, the band found that their “sound” stemmed directly from their collective belief that music is akin to love and its ability to connect and heal people through shared experience.
HAUNTER pulls sonically from alt-pop and mainstream luminaries like Chvrches, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift, Lights, PVRIS, Imagine Dragons, and CXLOE, while showcasing occasional appreciation for the guitar driven Emo/Pop Rock groups like Jimmy Eat World and The Maine. The group is dedicated to creating substantial, thoughtful, uncompromising Pop Music.
