Emergency’s call for acoustics, Bad Luck headlines Salt Lake City with a surprise Q&A. The Brooklyn Band took the stage playing an intimate acoustic set, fans sat soundly around front-man Dominick Fox to hear their favorites and ask the band questions. The set list ranged with songs from their new album, Summer Of Pain back to their first record Cold Bones.

We sat down with Bad Luck to break down their latest release.

“It's the happiest we’ve ever been with a record,” said front Dominick Fox. “It’s the most complete album that I've ever written.”

From a personal perspective, the album felt like the floating limbo you experience after the loss of love in any capacity. Witnessing Summer Of Pain live in such an intimate setting was a privilege and a heartbreak. Without multiple instruments and overwhelming staging, I was left to pay attention to every raw lyric. “The track listening is an emotional rollercoaster,” said Dominick, “In its literal ending it’s confusing, in an optimistic sort of way.”

Bassist Joe Fox and Lead Vocalist Dominick Fox pay homage to their childhood, SLC and Psychedelics in their single "ROY." The lyric “Utah made me think that acid was cool” written by Dominick, inspired by SLC punk and the boys’ middle school antics.

“I was one of the only punk kids in my middle school, when kids started selling drugs I was intimidated,” said Dominick. “Acid wasn't around, so from the movie I stuck to that.”

The lyric puts the rumor that the brothers were at one point selling drugs to rest.

Bad Luck, although faced with some bad luck in SLC, played a beautiful set and if the chance arises to see them live, you don't want to miss it.
