Taylor Swift releases 'Midnights'

The time has finally come - Taylor Swift released her new album 'Midnights!' The album has a mix of light pop with alternative undertones. It’s kind of hard to describe the album’s genre as it has its own genre that’s different from her past albums. Every song takes you through a unique journey through themes that inspired the album as Taylor stated such as self-loathing and wondering what could've been. There's a song for everyone and all of the lyrics come from a raw place of facing your inner emotions, whether good or bad.

One of my top favorite songs is ‘Maroon.’ It has a sense of nostalgia and expresses the shade of red, maroon. Maroon, as a darker shade of red, can stand for the ugly sides of a relationship but also the highs of a relationship. What I love about her songwriting is that she goes into detail about specific moments that make you feel like you’re there experiencing those emotions.

‘Anti-hero’ is about Taylor’s insecurities about not feeling good enough, and it’s a reminder that everyone, no matter how famous you are, deals with these doubts. The chorus “Hi, it’s me, I’m the problem it’s me” is super catchy and I personally can relate to being anxious and having my insecurities come to the surface.

Overall, this album is not what I expected at all in the best way possible. I’m glad Taylor didn’t release any singles beforehand because it was an amazing experience hearing all the songs for the first time and being surprised! Finding out the track titles through Midnights Mayhem with Me was so fun and made me eager to find out how she would incorporate the title words into lyrics and metaphors. I’m so proud of Taylor and so excited for her upcoming projects and tour!!
