Yueku says, “My debut EP “Catch Me If You Can” is a collection of songs I wrote over the past year with my good friend, Jake LeMond, & co-produced by Nick Matzkows. Personally, it serves as a time capsule & was a very necessary outlet for a tough & strange year. It felt so amazing to make music with good friends & create some songs we loved. Making this music was truly an exhilarating, yet grounded experience. The EP feels like an accurate representation of who I am & where I’m at in life right now. It explores heartbreak, finding love, self doubt & closure. I’m hoping people will connect with it any way & do for someone else what my favorite songs do for me.”
Yueku is the new solo project of Detroit Pop Writer / Vocalist Christian Koo, formerly of The True Blue. As the band drifted apart in 2020 Chris saw himself coming out to New York for several writing sessions which led to his first feature with Midnight Kids.
On his first solo-outing, Yueku’s Christian Koo draws influence from the fateful affairs of 90’s rom-coms, Frank Ocean’s earnest confessionals, and the guileless charm of a Mike Birbiglia standup set.
The EP features co-writes with Jake LeMond who is a member of Michigander, and co-produced and mixed by Nick Matzkows. Nick has great credits with heavier bands such as Attack Attack! Wind Walkers and ENMY so is branching into Pop with Yueku.
Pulling out of the Motor City suburbs, Yueku’s dynamic bedroom pop feels at once airy and intimate. Cruising with the windows down, a car full of friends, or maybe just a special someone by your side, these are the moments enshrined in our memories. Yueku’s unabashedly nostalgic, yet modern, crisp production captures those bittersweet moments we can only appreciate in the rearview.
